12International ExchangesInternational Symposium on Security Affairs (December 2024)ASEAN Workshop (January 2025)International Forum on War History (September 2024)Connections Japan (January 2025)NIDS International Symposium on Security AffairsThe symposium began in 1985 as the International Roundtable Discussion and was renamed as its current title in 1999. NIDS brings together renowned intellectuals from home and abroad, and publicly opens the event. The symposium is attended by a wide variety of participants such as government and military personnel, researchers and experts, journalists and the general public.ASEAN WorkshopNIDS began this workshop in 2019 as a successor to the International Workshop on Asia Pacific Security, which had been held since 2010. Participants engage in dialogs and discussions with security researchers from countries in the region, mainly from Southeast Asia, in a workshop format.Organizing International Conferences, and Events NIDS hosts international conferences on security and war and military history annually. The conferences cover a wide range of timely themes such as global and regional issues and policy-related challenges.NIDS International Forum on War HistoryNIDS began the forum in 2002 for the purpose of revisiting war history from multiple perspectives. Researchers from Japan and overseas give presentations on war history to share their expertise and enhance mutual trust among the participating countries.Connections JapanAs part of efforts to strengthen MOD's intellectual foundation, NIDS has been holding the Connections Japan international conference since 2022 to share knowledge with policy simulation experts from around the world and to learn and further develop the latest policy simulation/strategic wargaming methods so that we can expand our ability to support policy and education.
