Dr. Renato Cruz De Castro (NIDS Visiting Research Fellow)
Renato Cruz De Castro is a full professor in the International Studies Department, De La Salle University, Manila, and holds the Charles Lui Chi Keung Professorial Chair in China Studies. He is currently the National Institute of Defense Studies (NIDS) Visiting Fellow for 2018. In 2017, he was based in the Japan Institute for International Affairs (JIIA) as s research fellow. He was the U.S.-ASEAN Fulbright Initiative Researcher from the Philippines and was based in the East-West Center in Washington from September to December 2016. He is an alumnus of the Daniel Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Hawaii, U.S.A. In 2009, Dr. De Castro became the U.S. State Department ASEAN Research Fellow from the Philippines and was based in the Political Science Department of Arizona State University. He earned his Ph.D. from the Government and International Studies Department of the University of South Carolina as a Fulbright Scholar in 2001, and obtained his B.A. and two master's degrees from the University of the Philippines.

Dr. David Arase was a visiting fellow at the National Institute for Defense Studies of the Ministry of Defense of Japan in summer 2014. From 2012, Dr. Arase is a Resident Professor of The Johns Hopkins University-Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies. Dr. Brad Roberts (NIDS Visiting Research Fellow)
Dr. Brad Roberts was a visiting fellow at the National Institute for Defense Studies of the Ministry of Defense of Japan in spring 2013. From 2009 to early 2013 Dr. Roberts served in the Obama administration as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear and Missile Defense Policy.
